Barrick Safety and Health Systems

Barrick Health System

The Barrick Health System was developed in 2005. It consists of six elements with a number of aspects associated with these elements. The System is risk-based, as is the Barrick Safety System, with the goal of optimizing employee health and well-being. The key element of the Barrick Health System is the same as the Safety System - Leadership and Personal Commitment. Our health system supports the concept of Courageous Leadership at all levels of the organization; that each individual can make a difference. In 2006, the Health System was introduced globally and will be phased in over time.

Barrick Safety System

The Barrick Safety System was introduced in 2004. This System consists of eight elements which are being phased in throughout the Company. The key to the success of the system is a commitment to leadership and a common vision of workplace safety. Courageous Leadership training for all personnel began in 2004, and was introduced to our employees at the former Placer Dome sites in 2006. Most of our full-time contractors have also received Courageous Leadership training. Click here to view Barrick’s latest safety performance statistics. We expect to see continued improvement in safety due to Courageous Leadership training, as new workers are oriented into the system and refresher courses, designed to sustain the momentum, continue to roll out.
